Foreword by the FEI President
On behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale, I am delighted to welcome you to the FEI Eventing European Championship for Juniors and Young Riders 2021 here in Segersjö (SWE). Over the next few days, this stunning venue will provide the perfect scenic backdrop, as Europe’s best youth combinations come together in search of individual and team glory.
FEI Eventing is the ultimate test of versatility, and to be selected to represent on the European stage is testament to countless hours of training and dedication. With both individual and team glory on the line, admiral traits of bravery, determination, camaraderie and unmatched horsemanship will be on display and many of the partnerships you will witness in the coming days, will continue to flourish on a path of international representation and success.
Across the whole FEI community, we have witnessed the unparalleled success of youth championships in supporting and developing talent. They provide a framework for longevity and advancement within the sport and offer a unique opportunity for young athletes to compete and learn from one another. Championships like these are crucial in nurturing talent, giving competitors vital initial experience and a taste of what it means to compete on the European stage. To have the honour to represent one's country at such a pivotal age has a lasting impact, instilling confidence in our young stars and thus ensuring the continued success and growth of FEI Eventing worldwide.
We have all become accustomed to change over the past year with the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is wonderful to see that this important Event – which had to be cancelled in 2020 – can now go ahead. Providing a platform for young athletes to compete safely and in the name of national pride is possible thanks to the collective efforts of organising committees such as the Montgomery-Cederhielm family and Segersjö International Horse Trials, as well as all the experts that have contributed to the FEI Calendar Task Forces and our Return to Play resources, and tools such as the FEI Policy for Enhanced Competition Safety during the Covid-19 pandemic.
I would like to congratulate all athletes who have made it here to Segersjö; your commitment, resolve and enthusiasm are crucial in furthering FEI Eventing worldwide. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors, partners, officials, volunteers, media and everyone who has devoted their time, commitment and support to the successful running of this Championship allowing people around the world to engage first-hand with FEI Endurance.
